Default [FIXED] Video clip problem with XP

Hey im running on wondows XP and im having real difficulty playing some of my video files. The files in question all end in .avi and when i tried to play them on windows meda player i only et th sound. At first i countered this by downloading and using aviplayer and this seemed to work fine however I downloaded some more video files and they only play the audio on both media player and aviplayer. Before the problem arose I had deleteed the other files that did work so I can no test if they still work now. Some video files on my pc do work fine, i find that the working files say movie clip or windows media audio/video file when i hover the mouse over them whereas those which are not working say video clip. Please can some one help me out or just tell me of another program whic will let me watch them as I'm dying to watch those files !!!!!

(i don't know if this is important but the files are Lost episodes 9 and 10, dont tell me the ending!!!!)

:-) Hey Royston,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a lot of very knowlegable people on this site, and I am sure that we can help you solve your problem.

I am curious about your files working and then stopping. Are .avi files the only ones you are having difficulty with? Did they work and then suddenly stop working? Have you checked the settings on your player to make sure that it is set to play .avi files?

Are all of your graphics and DirectX drivers up to date?

Also, if this problem occured recently, you could have some type of malware. Have you checked your system for that? If not, click on PreWork in my signature and follow the instructions exactly as written. Posting your ewido and HijackThis! logs back here.

We'll look forward to your reply,

TTFN

Try the K-lite mega codec pack:

http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/

and use the Media Player Classic that comes with it , you should be able to play almost everything with that.

:-) Hey Guys,

Royston, are you using WMP 10?

@Joe, this is similar to the problem that Darklord is having.

Close , but Darklord is having problems with wmp using to much resources after a while.

But you could try to exchange suggestions between topics to see if they help for the other

Yeah I have had this problem too, I just downloaded the latest divx codecs and it worked fine. That is if you haven't tried this already, you can get them for free at www.divx.com ... the play bundle.
