I am curious about your files working and then stopping. Are .avi files the only ones you are having difficulty with? Did they work and then suddenly stop working? Have you checked the settings on your player to make sure that it is set to play .avi files?

Are all of your graphics and DirectX drivers up to date?

Also, if this problem occured recently, you could have some type of malware. Have you checked your system for that? If not, click on PreWork in my signature and follow the instructions exactly as written. Posting your ewido and HijackThis! logs back here.

We'll look forward to your reply,

For every different type of video file youll need a different codec to be able to play them.

You could call it some sort of "translation" software so that youre pc knows how to use and uncompress the data file and play the video.

Hey Guys,

Joe, how would one go about determining which codecs they have and if they are updated?

You can use G-spot to find out what codecs you have installed , and also find out what codec you need to play a specific file.

BUT... there site is hacked atm...lol

http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

They are still in Google's cache though:

Glad you got it to work but you are using the codecs  you dont have to do anything to use them , you just need to have them installed on youre pc to be able to play the files.

And some extra info , the codec pack i posted also contains those divx codecs plus loads more.
So if you run in to problems with other files that dont play then try that. just uninstall the divx codecs you just installed first to prevent conflicts with having the same codec twice installed.
