Default WMP

I know most of ya guys don't use WMP and use WinAmp and what-not but since I'm lazy as hell and do kinda like WMP I was wondeirng if I could get some help with fixing my WMP. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled and that didn't fix it. Basicaly I start playing a song or movie and it'll play it fine for a min or two and then the comp will start slowin down and then finaly the song will get all choppy and upon opening the tskmng I see that not only is wmp using up 50 to 70% of the CPU but it's using over 200,000 K system resources and it shouldn't do that... :
Help would be appreciated.

Welcome to PCHF

Firstly, can you try this.

Right click on My Computer and select properties > Advanced > Performance/Settings > Advanced tab > Virtual memory/change > make sure that the virtual memory is set to "system managed size" click "set" then ok and re-boot

Also, check that the correct sound output device is checked in control panel > sounds and make sure that hardware accelleration in advanced sound settings is set to max.

:-) Hey Darklord,

Have you made sure that you have all of your graphics and DirectX updates?

Also, is this a recent problem that just suddenly occured or is this a problem that has progressively gotten worse.

Look forward to your reply,

By the way,
what are your system specifications and what version of WMP are you running?

Default Re: WMP

All drivers and firmware are up to date and I'm using Media Player 10 and it started doing that a short while ago, used to work fine before :-(

System Specs:
- Windows XP Home SP 2
- Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.46Ghz with HT
- GigaByteLAN Titan Series -- GA-81875 / GA-81K1100 Motherboard (has a blown ethernet port from a real bad lightning storm)
- 2x 512Mbs Corsair 400Mhz Dual Channel RAM
- 128Mbs Radeon Sapphire 9600 XT
- DVD/CD burner/reader
- 200Gbs Seagate HD 7200RPM ATA/100
- 120Gbs Maxtor HD 5400ROM ATA/130

Think that's everything unless you want all the stuff connected to my ports

:-D Hey Darklord,

I know you want to use WMP, which is fine, but have you tried another Media player to see if the problem is WMP or something else?

Also, it might be a good idea to check your system for malware on the off chance that you have some type of bug. If you click on the PreWork link in my signature, you will find the information you need to do an initial check. Please follow the instructions as written and post your ewido and HijackThis! logs back here.

Looking forward to your reply,
