Default Win XP Home Edition Help

I shut down my computer completely after the window updates were installed. Now when I turn my computer back on, my BACKGROUND loads, but my icons and start menu doesnt load at ALL. I even did restore points to a earlier time. It still just loads background, no icons or start menui. Whats the PROBLEM?
Thanks

Hello Iguess welcome to PCHF,

can you try the following:

press - buttons at the same time,

Then you click task manager

you goto Tabblad applications

click the button

you get a window and here you type "explorer.exe" (without the quotes)

and click

Does this bring back your startmenu and taskbar?

You can use the keyboard combinations:
Ctrl + Shift + Escape
Ctrl + Alt + Delete

The first is the easiest, it will directly bring you to Task manager.
I'm not quite sure what Rdstar meant, but in my opinion you could easily press Windows key + R, and then type explorer.exe

I meant indeed CTRL ALT and DELETE , but I've put them between arrows to wtate that they are keyboard buttons. but it is been seen als HTML tags by the forum and disappeard... sorry I didn't check it....

Bus as bleufish stated you can indeed use windows button and [R] at the same time, and then type "explorer.exe"
