Not a good start to my year at school.
Well, as I'm sure oyu can tell by the title I just got back to college for my second year and I'm already having computer problem. I've tried everything and I've pretty much given up when I saw this site and thought maybe someone here has an idea.
Ok, I'l' start off by saying that I have a Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop with a ATI M11 Mobility Radeon 9700. (I just copied that, I really don't know that much) Anyways, I left for school yesterday afternoon. It's a 5 hour drive and when I got there the first thing I did was of course set up my computer. This is where I find out I have a problem. I turn on my computer and after the dell and windows loading screens it goes black. I restart a couple times, same problem. I get out my windows disck and atempt to repair Windows. It finishes, but the problem remains. The only thing it will do is boot is safe mode. Well, after messing around with and asking some people in the dorm I give up and do a full reformat (luckly I was planning on doing it some time soon anyways and had all the disks I needed.
Well, I reformat, reistall windows, and everythings working great. Untill I start installing my drivers. Everything is fine util I get to my video card driver. I istall it off the disk like all the other drivers and restart... The problems back. I restart my computer in safe mode, and unistall the video driver. It's working again. I think that maybe I need a new driver, but I've downloaded everyone I can find and I still get the same problem.
Well, there's my problem. I don't know what to do. I hope that it is something software related and can be easaly fixed. If not then does this mean I will have to by a new video card? Seeing how it's a laptop and being in college I really don't have a lot of cash I hope not. Well, thanks for any help you can give.
