Default [Fxed] XP\SYSTEM32\AUTEXEC.NT Error Message

An accounts program that I've used with no problems for? about 3 years has suddenly refused to run. The error message reads:
Quote
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MSDOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application. (There's also an 'ignore' box but the box still simply closes).
Unquote
I'm using an up-to-date Windows XP Home edition.
Grateful for any advice, guidance or suggestions.
David

What accounts software are you using?
Is it Windows based or DOS based?

Have you installed any other program recently which may have caused this to happen?

Thanks for the swift response. The program is called Visual Accounts, It's a Windows program and runs fine on my backup machine at home.
I can't think of anything I've installed that might have caused the problem but I do like to try new software so that's a possibility.

That look's spot on, Wayne. I'll dig out the CD and try it. I'll let you know how I get on later in the week. In the meantime, Many thanks.

If you do not have this CD for some reason try downloading the file here. After downloading the .zip you will have to extract it to your windows\system32 directory.
