'
and if that doesnt work and want to try a faster way do this

You can boot to the XP cd and when you see the Welcome to setup press the letter R
You will get a dos prompt
Then type "chkdsk /p" without the quotes and hit enter
When that is done type "fixboot" and hit enter
"Y" and enter at the prompt
Then type "exit" and hit enter
The system will now reboot into Windows

I'm not stupid with stuff like this just it has never happened before. I think I know what I need to do to fix it and you guys to tell me how at this point. I am a bright guy with computers and am majoring this year in network administration so I should know these things. From getting the UNMOUNTABLE _BOOT_VOLUME my bet is I have to turn off Hard Drive caching or some sort like that because this is definitely not a total hardware issue. Also, on this computer I have a difficult version of my XP Pro on SP1 to update. I can not update the normal way but I have been told that in that SP2 it has what I need to fix my computer. First I need to fix that caching issue and see if that does the trick. I do not see any option like that in my bios... can anyone help me with this part of the issue? Motherboard is ASRocks K7SG41GX with Western Digital 160GB and an OS that is Win XP Pro SP1 that can not be upgraded by normal means.

Have you already tried an other HD , or this HD in an other pc?

And dont ask how to update an copyed version of XP... that is against the rules of PCHF.

I see my bios just might be looking for the wrong things. Also I know there is a way to get SP2 by abnormal means but I will try my own ways for that. For the HD caching I think that might fix this problem if I can change those values. I can boot to safe mode still and every once in a while it will full boot but it is just confusing right now.
