[Fixed] DVD writer tells me it only uses CDR ??

hello everyone... I've got a strange problem?

: (which makes me think it's some stupid little thing I missed)

I just bought a lite-on DVD r/rw, I've installed (to my knowledge) all the necessary drivers (they came on the NERO 6 disc with the writer) .. and when I tried to burn a data disc on a DVD it lets me add files and whatnot but when I tell it to burn it gives me a error message saying I can't write to this type of media and that I need to insert a CDR/RW?? and I'm curious to know why a DVD writer is asking for CDRs ??

any help would be greatly appreciated..

Hi there and welcome to PCHF.

In Nero you need to specify the type of disc you are using cd/dvd. In Nero express the tab for doing this is at the top of the window on the right.

but the thing Is I was just comming back to edit my message and let you guys know that ..
... in that pulldown menu for the DVD drive -which is G:- only gives 2 options to choose from

first:
G: LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1693S [DVD]

second:
G: LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1693S [CDR/RW]

I used the [DVD] option when trying to burn and it still asked for a CD ... I was thinking I need to get it to say [DVDR/RW] .. or something to that affect, but don't know where to do that.. I tried NERO's info tool and it says that that drive (G

is capable of writing all the dvd types "DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD+R DL"

ok.. I just went and checked out my computer ... and in there it's now telling me that this is a CD drive ... before it'd say DVD drive

hmmm ... why do these things only happen to me :-(

OK.. I don't know what I did.. but it's working now .. I think it had something to do configuring NERO .. I went into expert properties and enabled image recorder for all supported formats ... but I don't know why that would do anything??

ah well .. I still thank you hengis and the board for helping me
