Default [Fixed] bsod

I had the blue screen of death on my xp pro pc with different messages all the time so I decided to re-install a new hard drive and windows with it as many other forums pointed at drivers corrupt or missing. 3 days later and again its started bsod error in win32k.sys "page fault in non paged area" I do not know what to do next do not want to replace all pc parts please help!!!! Obviously was not a driver issue as fresh install. What else could it be.

:-) Hi Delo,

Welcome to PCHF. I am sure that the wonderful people on this site will be able to help you so stay calm and have a cup of coffee while we start the process.

When you did the fresh install, did you reformat the hard drive, and if so how did you go about it? Also, are you showing two versions of XP on your hard drive? I have a feeling you may need to re-reinstall but let's start at the begining for now.

Our guy Merlin has a wonderful process for setting up your partitions so if you do need to start over, I think you will be pleased, (I was thrilled with the results.)

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

thanks for the quick reply I purchased a new 160 gb maxtor drive and did a fresh install of xp pro from a differnet source to the original disk, updated with sp2 and most recent updates for windows, this time i installed as ntfs not fat 32 as the old drive was, so i have ruled out xp and the hard driver or drivers as causing the bsod what else could it be.

Thanks for the compliment tj :-)... ?

When you get an error with page fault in it, it usualy tend's to be pointing to your memory, or a program you have installed. Can you track down what program you installed right before this happend? You can try increasing your page file by

right clicking my computer..
Click on properties..
Then click on the advanced tab..
Click on the performance settings tab..
then you will see another tab that will say advanced clikc on it..
then you will see a screen that say's virtual memory. Click on the circle that say's custom size.. put 1024 in the minnumum and maximim spaces and click set. and reboot.

Before doing tihs download the trial version of this defragger and defrag fist that way it wont be all over the place...

tested memory with memtest no errors page file already was at 1024 on old drive not on this one though yet, new drive so surely will not need a defrag.

Since it is a new drive you will have to defrag, once you install XP programs get scatterd all over the place so they get into places they should not be.. Since you have used memtest, it has to be a program you installed, that is locked somwhere it should not be..
