Default [Answered] XP Install

Hi,

I have had my current computer about 4 years now and have reformatted the harddrive twice. I recently tried again and have screwed something up. (I have only the 1 hard drive and am currently on another PC.)

I ran my XP HOME disk, chose to delete the current partition and start with a fresh format NTFS. Set up ran through the format and began setting up windows. Then it said the pc needed to reboot to continue running setup. It reboots with this message.

Couldn't open drive Multi(0) disk(0) rdisk(0) partition(1)
NTLDR: Couldn't open drive Multi(0) disk(0) rdisk(0) partion(1)

and the machine just stops.

After googling the problem, I tried to access the CD drive after dropping into c:\windows, but it wont recognize the drive. I have opened my BIOS (i think) but it shows the startup a cdrom - A Drive - Harddisk and thats it. I am totally lost. I went into the Recovery console and tried both FIXBOOT and FIXMBR which I saw posted on other forums. Nothing changed.

I guess formatting your drive just went wrong. Run Windows Setup again (boot from Windows XP CD), remove all partitions and reformat.

If you cannot boot from cd you can always download a bootdisk and save it to a floppy disk,

http://www.mirrors.org/archived_soft...les/xpboot.exe

or what model is your hard drive? Maxtor, Western Digital etc..

I have tried to reinstall and reformat, but it stops at the same place with the same error. Its a western digital drive.

Since posting I have tried again, deleted the partition reformated with NTFS and running setup. When it reboots I get the same problem.
