Default [Answered] System restore problem

Let me start by saying that my 3 year old son uses this computer so I end up using system restore quite a bit. Anyway, last time I tried to restore the system and I got an error message saying that I didn't have security priveleges to run system restore and to log back on as an administrator. Mine IS the administrator account so I don't know how to fix this. I tried making a new admin account but got the same error message. Looking around online I found this article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/283252/, that describes my problem exactly but doesn't provide a solution. Can anyone tell me how to enable my permissions to get this thing to work? Thanks

win XP home

Re-start the PC and go into "Safe mode" - try running the system restore utility from there.

I understand that I can use system restore through safe mode, but I'd like to fix the main problem. Why can I no longer access system restore? I can't shut it off to clear disk space or to get rid of a virus. All I can do is use it in safe mode, nothing else.

I'm sure that my son changed a setting somewhere, although we have his account limited to the bare bone minimum. I just need to know how to change the settings back, short of a re-format. I know it's possible. If my son messed it up with his limited account, then it should be pretty easy to fix with an admin account.

If all else fails, can I download an XP fix CD? All I got with my PC was a restore disk, no option for 'fix' (just re-format). If I download a fix CD, will I have to deal with the security measures built into a regular copy of XP?

First of all what kind of PC do you have? And can you boot into safe mode with command prompt?

If not use this but don't let you 3yr old get it :-)
