Default [Answered] General Problems with Xp!

Hey guys...

i needed a forum that had memebers who know what they are on about and this site was reccommended to me.

right where do start? i was having problems with my pc running slow and randomly crashing i ran anti virus programs and anti spyware programs.

The problem still carried on i tried defragmenting and running the scan disk however the defragment problem caused the pc to crash and the

scandisk never makes it passed the 4of5 step. Then basically it didn't load windows and i got an stop error code. i can't remember the code but

it was somthing to do with a corupt windows file (according to the dude who came out) SO i reformated lost all my uni work (lesson learnt back

up work). Now my pc doesn't crash as much however it is still slow and i once got the stop error screen but it is a different code 0x000000F4...

I guess what i'm asking is why is my pc not as good as new after i reformatted and what can i do? i know that when you reformat the data lost is still on the harddrive (maybe a fragmented data file??)until the harddrive runs out of room and re-writes it. However i'm now thinking is there a way to totally wipe my harddrive blank and then reinstall windows using recovery disks? any ideas

SUMMARY
Reformatted-still have some crashes blue screen of death
Still slow when running programs and booting
Can't run scan disk
just not quite right

After a fresh install of windows and you cannot perform a full scandisk.
Or harddrive is broken en should be replaced or one of your memory modules is broken.

Try to run scandisk with one memory module adn then swich to see if that is the case.

See pic below , if you are going to test it out by swapping memory around be sure to disconnect the powercord and before removing the memory push down the hooks at eather side of it and after replacing the sticks , make sure that the same hooks snap in to place again.
