Default [Fixed] reinstalling windows xp

I had a virus on my computer and so i wanted to format(windows xp home edition)
I downloaded the boot disk package from microsofts web site and continued. It goes through all the disks and then when I inserted disk 6 and it started the actual install(well it only shows 0%) but i get an error message

the following value in the .sif file is corrupted or missing.
value 0 on the line in section [sourcedisksfiles] with key sp1.cab.

setup cannot continue

what can I do now? I dont have windows on my pc and I cant get it back on. Ive tried remaking the boot disks but the error persists

Id would really appreciate anyone help anyone could give me? :

Try downloading the bootdisks from www.bootdisk.com and also check your BIOS to make sure the boot order is correct. The CD ROM should be set to boot first. After you have done this, pop in your XP CD and restart the PC. Setup should then load and you can format the drive to NTFS and install XP

Howdy And welcome to pchelp Forums

I am guessing the information copied to the floppy is corrupted.. You can get a boot diskHERE

(much better than MS boot disk)

Do you have a cd/rw? Those are actually beter to use than the floppy's!

in disk manager all I have to do is put the disk in and press copy right?

so i put the disk in and turn on the pc the light goes on on the floppy drive and it makes some noise but then it just goes back to telling me

windows root>\system32\hal.dll is missing

what am i doing wrong? this disk didnt repond like the others did.

I thought XP has setup-boot on it's CD?
Anyway just set your cd-rom driver first in the BIOS boot sequence, and make sure your xp cd is inserted, usually it shows: Press any key if you want to boot from CD-Rom (at least that's the translation from Dutch), press any key and Windows Setup will start, if this message is not showen, Setup runs automatically
