To do this simply enter: ipconfig /flushdns in a command prompt.

I'll try the dnsflush when I get back to the machine. I think I'll wait to see if there are any other suggestions before driving to the location.

I had the Acer brought to my home where I have a DSL modem with wireless connectivity.? The Acer found the network went through some gyrations and connected to the internet!? I tried to ping my machine and it timed out on the Acer. ?When I looked at my machine, Norton showed intrusion from outside.? At the oringinal location I had first set a range of acceptable addresses and seconly turned OFF Norton on the Sony Tower. I guess this does not open the network as you would think.? It appears Norton does not do what you tell it!
I have to take the Acer back to its home and see wha'sup.? They also want me to configure the mail account.

I'll let you know what I find.
Thanks for everyones inputs to try and solve this problem.? BTW when I tried to ping ebay it also timed out.? Pinging yahoo worked fine.

Well I finally got back to the location and did solve the networking problem. Here is what I think it was. The Sony laptop had a wireless card that was linked to the internal network. The Acer searched the wireless network and found the Sony, got connected and thought everything was fine. The problem was the cable modem was tied to the Linksys and that network had no upper layer connectivity. Once I forced the wiresess network to use the Linksys I was able to get onto the Internet and map the drives from the Sony Tower. The clue is in the MS wireless Network Connection Properties. You must order the available networks so the Linksys is the first to get connected. If you don't the first available wireless device gets the RF connection but not the network connection.
Now onto another problem.
The user wants Eudora 5.2 as their mail app. As long as I turn OFF Norton I can send and receive mail with no problem. As oon as I turn ON Norton even if all security subsets such as Outbreak, Firewall and Intrusion are Off or Disabled, I get an error message that there is an "Error reading from network Cause: Connection is closed by foreign host (0)". You can not even get into the password screen.
The local ISP support says it is a Norton problem and I agree.
I have even turned OFF all options on Anti Virus and it still will not login with Security turned ON.
Any help?

Well it all works now! The last part of the problem was Norton. Just for information, if any portion of Norton is turned OFF, when you go to their site (www.service.symantec.com) and try and have their wizard fix your problem, it hangs the connection. The solution to the mail problem was certain executables such as iexplorer and svchost were only configured for Permit Once operation. Without these correctly configured, any link to the server generated an Error reading from the Network Caused: Connection closed by foreign host (0).

To get them configured correctly I had to Enable everything in Norton, then go onto their site have the wizard fix the problem and then re-boot.

Also since the owner likes Eudora 5.2, the Norton email scanning had to be Un-checked for Incoming and Outgoing. It seems Eudora does not use Ports 25 1nd 100 for email.

I did feel like banging my head but I also learned a lot.
Thanks to everyone that gave good suggestions.
