Welcome back

Go into your BIOS settings and find in your settings "Boot Order" and see if that has been changed from C, D, A (I believe that is what it should be for a normally partioned hard drive).

It's not that. I already looked at that.

A file may have become corrupted.

Here is a troubleshooting guide for corrupted files leading to boot problems.

According to this thread you can connect your laptop to a normal desktop with a USB cable and see what is on it (provided the hard drive hasn't failed, but you would probably get "Hard Disk Fail" before "Operating System Not Found" if that were the case).

Edit: Whoops, I should have said that you can put the HD in a USB enclosure.

Another Edit: Also, if you have a Windows XP disk, boot from that and select "Recovery Console". From there enter the "FIXBOOT" command and see if it can fix your boot sector files...

OK then, do you have a 2000 disk? If so there should still be a recovery console that you can issue fixboot from. Also, try chkdsk to see if there is an error or something somewhere on the hard drive. When Windows XP refused to boot for me that actually did it for some reason which I don't understand...
