The Windows 2000 disk is a 5 hour drive away, so I can't get it.

How do I do the chdsk?

From the 2000 boot disk :-(. Do you have a friend nearby with one? Otherwise you could take out your hard drive and put it in a USB HD enclosure and connect it to your desktop and make sure your HD works/everything is still there.

Well I had this exact problem when I forgot my usb memory stick sticked in and rebooted. Look if you have any usb devices on, shut them down/plug em out and reboot. Might work
Only dif is that I have WIN XP
