Default [Resolved] CPU-stagnating-Problem

Hi Everybody,

nice to be on PCHF... First let me say I'n not new to windows but I'm not a system-geek at all.

I have the following Problem:

I have a new IBM Notebook running Win XP and I have a quite annoying problem which I don't really know how to solve. Probably someone of you guys knows sth. about or can give me a hint how to approach that problem. Just after Starting Up the System the CPU starts to stagnate, goes on 100% system capacity, in always the same intervals, which means around 20 secs or sth. and this only for a split second. Of course the whole system is stagnating quickly (mouse freeze and so on..) and thats very annoying for working. A funny thing as well is listening to an iTunes-Stream the sound after such an interrupt sounds totally scrambled, after pressing pause/play it's OK again. In taskmanager this looks like this doing nothing:

A list of running processes is attached.

I had this problem on my last notebook as well and as I remember - but I'm not sure at all - the problem was solved when I changed from Norton Antivir to Kaspersky. But because i bought the Norton now it would be nice to keep this software.. but as said, I'm not sure the problem is the norton antivir.

And as i set up the whole bunch of software i need to work when i got the notebook it's not clear after which installation this problem came up??

Now I don't really know how to approach this problem so I wanted to ask you guys out there if anybody knows about sth. similar or has an idea??

Probably it would be usefull to have a nice little tool to monitor the processes where I can see what process used how much CPU at a certain time or sth., i tried to figure this out in the tasmanager but this turned out as being impossible.. I also looked through sysinternals.com but didn't find anything suitable, but probably that was my fault as well...

Hmmm, so far that's what I can say and I hope somebody can help me on this topic!

Thanks in advance for any answer,

Cheers, chris

Hi and welcome to PCHF.

Leerlaufprozess: http://www.processlibrary.com/direct...erlaufprozess/

Could you post your startup items: Start > run > type msconfig > startup tab. Also, can you download and run HijackThis (from the Handy Tools link in my sig). Post the generated log here.

You can fix these with hijackthis:

O4 - Global Startup: BTTray.lnk = ?
O4 - Global Startup: Digital Line Detect.lnk = ?
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - AutorunsDisabled - (no file)
O23 - Service: IBM PSA Access Driver Control (PsaSrv) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\PsaSrv.exe (file missing)
And also can you temporarly turn of windows autoupdate , reboot youre pc and turn it back on again to see if one of these 2 stays gone:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe

Other then that , i don't see any probs in youre log but you have loads and loads of programs and services running. maybe if you don't use all of it you could uninstall some of it?

thanks joe for your hint.. Fixed the problems you told me. The "023 - Service: IBM PSA.:" Hijack couldn't fix, an error occurrs. The windows autoupdate i turned off totally, I check it myself quite often. But the problem with the stagnating CPU i describe is still the same.

As I mentioned before, do you know a good process monitoring-tool to see what process produces this CPU-stress??

thanks again..

Chris

On sysinternal i found the lovely tool 'Process Explorer' and watched my System for a while and figured out, that it's the System process that causes my system to stagnate in intervals. Now I really don't know anymore what to do about. If it was any other process it would be much easier, no?

I suppose, the system process is the mainmain-process, no?

Finally I'm going to set up my system new or sth., this thing makes me really crazy...

cheers, chris
