Default [FIXED] - Can't install new programs due to rundll32.exe

Hi guys

I can't install any new programs as when I try to the installshield does not open. Then when I shut down the PC I have to end the program rundll32.exe. After I click "end now" the installshield starts to open but this is obviously too late as the PC is now shutting down.

I have tried to delete rundll32.exe but I get an error message saying that the disk is write protected. How can I delete rundll32.exe or how can I ever install a new program again?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks merlin

I tried that but after windows verified that all protected windows files were intact and in their original versions, nothing happened. Again I shut down and after I clicked "end now" rundll32.exe, windows tried to read the disk in the D drive, but I was shutting down.

It seems like I can't do anything until I end rundll32.exe. But I can't do this until I shut down.

???????????????

Thanks for the advice. It didn't quite work out how you said it would but I was able to fix the problem in safe mode.

Cheers
