Windows XP/2000 - [Answered] Switching from XP home to XP Pro posted in the Operating Systems forums; Am planning on stepping over from home edition to Pro. my question is.. should i make back ups from my data or is it safe to just install pro?...

If it was me, i would make backups just in case it was to go wrong. ie you dont back up install XP Pro and then all your files are missing. So i would.

It is best to backup and format your hard drive and do a fresh install of XP pro.. That way no files are copied on top of files etc.. It will cause problems later on! Look here for a a way to format and control windows

by the way is there away to get back your system files if they are cough cough accidentally deleted hhhahhaahahhaaa was alittle to eager on my delete option during a virus scan hhahahaha

What did you exactly delete?

Maybe this helps:


Have you XP CD in youre drive , go to start / run and in the run window type in:
sfc /scannow >enter
and it'll run itself, replacing any missign or damaged protected XP files.
