Default [Pending] Repetetive lag in games.

Well to start, not long ago, for some unknown reason, all of the games on my computer began to have small every-other-second lag spikes. I've found that when I install a game/game mod, it runs fine, with no lag. But, if I restart my computer and try to play them agian, the lag is there.

I've done: Virus scan, Spyware/Adware scan, cleaned my registry, removed unused files/programs, defrag'd my harddrive, did a clean sweep of my harddrive, tried a program that frees up memory, lowered the graphics in my games, lowered the resolution of the games, closed all unnecessary programs before running the game, cleaned my computer, made sure it wasn't overheating, updated my drivers, removed/reverted to older version/reinstalled latest drivers for video card, and god knows what else. Nothing has worked.

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)
System Manufacturer: HP Pavilion 06
System Model: D7218X-ABA 775E
BIOS: BIOS Date: 04/21/03 18:01:22 Ver: 08.00.08
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.1GHz
Memory: 1024MB RAM (two 512 MB chips, identical)
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
Video Driver: 77.72
Sound Card: SB Live! Audio [C800]
Page File: 227MB used, 2236MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode

Nothing is overclocked.

Suggestions? If you need anymore info, I'm more than willing to provide it.

Default Re: Repetetive lag in games.

Hey NachtKampfer,

Since your problem is a recent one that seems to have onset rather quickly, and you have tried all of the standard fixes, it sounds as if you either have an Active X conflict or a conflict from one of the games you instlalled.

The Active X problem could be caused by a malware/spyware/hijacker infection. Even though you have run the spyware/adware programs, there could still be traces left in your system. Have you tried Spy Sweeper? Merlin turned me onto it in the middle of a very messy problem, and it found traces left of infections I know I removed, and that other programs didn't detect.

It's just a trial, but hopefully, you wouldn't need it for very long any way.

If it is a conflict with a game you loaded, you might try a really good registry cleaner. Here is one that Joe or Merlin directed me to, I was really impressed.

I'll cross my fingers for you.
