Default [Fixed] I can't get my pc to start-up.

I got a pc that needed some tlc.? I reloaded it with win. 2000 pro. and tried to connect to internet with my usb port.? Since it wouldn't work, I decided to reload the computer.? Now, it continuously reloads, will not start up, and always says "couldn't open boot drive to check for signature".? :banghead What did I do?? Yes, I messed with a lot of stuff, checked jumpers, etc.? I even put a floppy drive in so I could try an emergency disk to start-up.? No such luck.? Please Help
!!!

Hi and welcome to the forums

The error message that you mention isn't familiar to me "couldn't open boot drive to check for signature" - could you re-check that you have copied the exact message, thanks.

It says (at first screen after system info screen) couldn't open boot partition to check for signature. I would completely format the HD, but not too familiar with that. Thanks!! :|

Sounds like you have a corrupted partition or a boot sector virus. Either way a fresh install is the most appropriate course of action.

Before we get into that, let's get a diagnostic utility for your drive - what is the manufacturer and part number of your hard drive?

I can't even run that. How do I get it into dos mode? I can get set-up mode, but don't really understand that.
