Default [Answered] A folder that seems to go on for infinity...

i noticed this when i was doing a scan.? i had just had my harddrive formatted and some how the scan had gone through like over 100,000 files.
this seemed screwy since i had only the basic files on there.? i did the scan again to find where it was getting stuck.? well i found it and it is pretty wierd.

the file name on my computer is:
Documents & Settings\Nancy\Desktop\Nancy's Documents\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning\F\F\F\F\.... and the F\ file keeps going on so that deleting it is impossibe because when i try, it states the file is too big for the recycle bin.

it's not a big deal, it isn't hurting anything or that dire, but since finding your forum, i thought that you guys and gals could help make my scans a bit shorter.

that and how could such a thing happen.? here is a screenshot.

Hello nanook,
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Find where the file is and rename it. If that does not work I will give you a link to a program that will delte anything.

Edit: When you reinstalled windows did you erase the hard drive first or did install windows ontop of windows?( ie.. recovery options)

hey Merlin~

what part of the filename should i rename? just the F\ file or the whole thing.

as for the reformat, i don't really know. a buddy of mine, with his own computer business, did the format. but a clue could be that he accidentally erased all of my music files. i had a couple of folders in which i asked not to be deleted, but...there were so many of Nancy's folders with "my music" that he saved the wrong one. this kinda tells me it was a clean install. hope that helps.

rename just the F first and put a .tmp at the end in there if that does not work rename whole thing and at the end put a .tmp and download this prgram to clean it up

k, Merlin~

i renamed the f file to "f.tmp" folder, got that app and cleaned. it is still there. i then changed the "CD Burning" to "Cd Burning.tmp". still there. i'm afraid to rename and delete the whole filename, because within some of those folders are other things that may be important. maybe i'm doing it wrong???

i might have to do this manually, going as far as i can, just to get rid of some of them, and hopefully it will fit into the recycle bin. lol.

thanks for your ideas. btw, that is a cool little app & free to boot. thanks.

Ok just open the program again and see if you can get into the F folder and click on option's(taking about cleanup) and then there will be a tab saying custom files and press add browse until you find the F folder and add it and wash it should delte it. How do you like the sound cool hu :-D

Merlin~

well, it failed again. within the app itself i browsed right to the f\ folder and tried deleting it. i believe because i renamed the folder .tmp and not an actual file, it didn't work. i tried to manually go as far as i could within the neverending f\ file and it actually came to an end. it contained some game exes and other misc apps. when looking within most, were empty except for a few exe files. one of them i could not access at all.

guess why not...the filename was too long. so within the neverending f\ file lies another file that never ends. lmao!

this is too funny. probably hard to understand, i know. seems this one will be too impossible to fix. eh? :banghead:

would have been cool to see how we could fix it. it's not really a biggy. just knowing it's there bothers me is all.

if you have any other ideas, i say go for it. if not, then thanks for your time!
