Right try the following:

Install TweakUI from this stie:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

Open the program and browse down to Repair, in the box it should have "Rebuild Icons" click on Repair now and see whether that helps.

Otherwise go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and browse down to number 119 - Change the hard drive icon.

Try that file and see whether it helps.

You can create your own icon if you want:

I think we are looking for the wrong solution here , it is not that just the icon has changed but you lost the icon and securety tab.

I don't know a solution yet but i thought i just mention it.

well when i installed my ne external HDD ( http://www.pchelpforum.com/index.php...icseen#msg6271 ) it had the same problem. But i used Icon Tweaker that Zimbo recommended and it fixed it, then i looked at my old HDD again and in that program it was set to the normal icon..but in My Computer it still wasnt right. I tried to fix it the exact way that i did the external drive w/o success... im so confised!

try and see if there is an autorun.inf file in the C:/ drive. That may be pointing to the icon that you see. If there is one, delete the autorun.inf file. hope it helps

And WinXP home doesn't have the Security and Icon tabs, i think. do you have Home or Pro?

EDIT: Mine doesn't.
