My PC has been working fine. I logged on Friday morning checked a my email plus couple of websites then logged off. I logged on again the same evening and none of my shortcuts would work, opens up the open with screen then once you have select the main program it opens.

i check a few web sites, while a windows update was running service pack 2 for XP. Now i cant open anything in Internet explorer i have to go through out look to open the websites. When i go into control panel to check the settings i get a message C:\WINDOW\system32\rundll32.exe Application not found. I've checked and it is there i've replaced the file and still getting same problem.

If you have your XP CD, you can do a repair install. Place the CD in your CD Rom drive and restart, the CD should automatically boot, and you can then follow the on screen prompts to perform a repair install.

I havent got it. It came preloaded, ive tried system recovery they arent working either

I've found an XP CD does it matter it isnt the one that was used to do the install, i have the key code etc for it. PLus do i need to back up all my files or will they remain the same E>G work emails etc.

Nope it doesnt matter at all. You just put the CD in and when it asks for the CD key just out yours in. I would do a backup of everything in case it goes wrong and everything gets deleted.

does anyone know what the default admin password is so i can get into the repair console. Cheers

It shouldn't ask for any password when you are doing a repair install, but if it does then leave the password field blank.
