Default [Fixed] Can't format my drive

Hi everyone,

Well I have an AMD Athlon XP 2.600, on an Nvidia Nforce 2 motherboard.
I have 1 SATA HDD and I try to format my pc by starting up the pc with win xp cd in drive. It normally starts the cd asks me to press enter to install win, I do so and then it tels me that it can't find a hard disc and that I should change its options or something like this and forces me to exit the win installation.
I also had a problem when trying to partition my disc with PartitionMagic8 because at the startup when it was supposed to partiition it told me the HD was locked.
What could be the problem? Because I went to ask for help at the pc service by the idiot technician told me characteristically:"We dont repair AMDs..." Yeah thanks, very helpful. He told me though it might have to do with the fact that its an amd and that I needed some kind of diskete at the startup to make it recognize the SATA or something like that.

Thanks alot, any help is welcome

PS if its of any help the HDD is an Western Digital 120GB

Welcome to PCHF

Go to this site: http://support.wdc.com/download/inde...n&pid=1&swid=9 get the correct driver for your drive and load it onto a floppy disk. When you are entering the first screen for WinXP installation - press F6 when prompted (at the bottom of the screen) - follow the on-screen prompts from there.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried dling this http://support.wdc.com/download/inde...&pid=2&swid=10 which is 1st gen SATA WD 7200 rpm WD Serial ATA RAID Controller Card Driver, put it on a diskette,
run installation pressed F6 loaded the drivers but after that it still didnt see my hard drive.

My hard drive is this :
WDC WD12 00JD-00GBB0 SCSI Disk Device (120,03 GB) I dled the right driver didn't I? After what saw in the support page it is a 1st gen SATA.
So whats wrong? Help! :-(

:|

Or do I need the SIIG Serial ATA Controller Card Driver? The explanation it has seems more right. Explains exactlly what I did. But whats an SIIG?

Wouldn't hurt to try the second generation driver.
