Default [Fixed] Windows XP Pro Problems

Hello,

I've got a problems with my OS which is really weird.

Ive just bought a PC with Windows XP Pro installed on a 866 processor and it worked fine at first.

I installed a couple of programs on it and a few documents and all was okay, THEN

one morning I turned on my PC only to find that it took longer than usual to start up.

After logging on, I found that it had deleted all my documents, and personal settings.

The programs I had installed were still there, it was just like it had a fresh installation,
but with my programs still on the desktop.

It has been doing this ever since. EVery time I try to log on, it takes a while, then it loads,
only for me to find that all my personal settings have been deleted.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks

Welcome to PCHF Lucie Ann

Sounds like a kind of profile corruption...or virus(?) Are you using an anti-virus product at the moment?

Have you tried creating another user on the PC and logging in with that one? Have you searched the hard drive for your missing files?

Hi Hengis x

Yes, it seems to be a corrupt profile file, i have just seen the error message that has come up.

said that it cannot find the local profile. I have searched the hard drive and i cant find any of my documents. Do you have any idea how i can go about fixing it?

Create another user (profile) thru user accounts in Control Panel.

Hi Hengis x

Did as you said, and i seem to be able to log on without a problem now, so thanks for that :-)

Just gotta figure out what caused the problem in the first place...i know for a fact that i dont have a virus.

By the way, the forum is brilliant, best one ive seen to date x

User profiles can become corrupt on their own.

Thanks for the compliment
