Windows XP/2000 - [Fixed] Windows Update makes my computer crash posted in the Operating Systems forums; I have got a relitivly new laptop and I thought I would go and get the updates as recomended but internet explorer crashes and i get this in the error ...

Default [Fixed] Windows Update makes my computer crash
I have got a relitivly new laptop and I thought I would go and get the updates as recomended but internet explorer crashes and i get this in the error report messge

AppVer: 3.9.1.0 ModName: advpack.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2900.2180 Offset: 00005650

I need these updates, please help

Hi there TVRTIm , here's a link for windowsupdate v6 , i don't know of you use it already and i don't really think it makes much difference in youre case but it never hurts to try:


http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu....aspx?ln=en-us


What could work is this:


go to start / run and in the run window type in:
sfc /scannow >enter
Have you XP CD in youre drive, and it'll run itself, replacing any missign or damaged protected XP files.
(works for win2000 aswel)
