every once in awhile my computer just up and restarts at random... i could be playing a game, being on a couple web sites, or doing work for class it just up and decides to restart, i have windows XP, i did have windows 2000, ????? im mind boggled :lol: about this problem does anyone have any ideas thanks for all your help everyone.

I am also having a similar problem.

Luckily though, so far i havent lost any important work as i always save often.

Im thinking the problem lies somewhere with power supply. I say this because i went to my other room to turn on some music and my xbox, and when i came back it was on the restart. This leads me to believe that some sort of power surge might make the computer unhappy and then want to restart.

Thats just speculation though, could have been coincidence.

It could also be related to a heat issue, open your case up and make sure all your fans are working.
Also check to make sure that your power supply fan is working.

i dont think its a power surge problem... this is the second house that i have been in and i have the same problem as i did in the other house, and i checked the fans, all fans up and running full blast , i have a 450 watt power supply so i dont think that i dont have enuff power to power my computer, and id hate to spend more money on a 6 year old computer if you know what i mean, i built this computer from scratch with a friend everything was fine, then after a couple uses the harddrive crashed, when we got it fixed then we started to have a couple problems after a few months latter,had another friend look at it, he got windows 2000 on it, had another friend i asked to help with the restart problem, he said he would try to fix it and also add another HD, he changed operating system to Windows XP and added a 80 GB to my 40 GB, and he said becouse of how much computer work his work was giving him he was unable to get a chance to fix the problem, i just dont want to go to a computer fix it place and pay big $$$$ just to hear them say they cant fix it eaither or maybe they broke it and they arnt going to replace what they broke :oops:

How exactly often does it restart?

i cant really tell you exactly how long it is before it restarts, or when, one day the computer will work fine, and wont restart, the next it may restart up to 3 times at different times of the day..... like last night it restarted once, i suppose maybe i should do a test and see how long it takes before it will rstart and how many times in a day by just leaving it on all day and doing things on it, enless anyone else has a better idea, ill wait till the next weekend and get back with you.

well, iv got a new restart problem now..... when i first turn on the computer and it goes threw just at the start or starting windows XP it restarts and says all that stuff about maybe you changed the software or added new hardware or something and this is what is going on bla bla bla, pick safe mode,or start up regurally... i press enter for regurally and it goes threw fine with no rebooting got :lol: got any clues anyone?
