Move / Copy To Folder

I use the right mouse click context menu for doing this as I like a lean and clean desktop. Just select Copy To Folder, or Move To Folder from the context menu when you right mouse click on a file (s) or folder (s).

1. Start the Registry Editor (Start /Run / regedit / OK
2. Go to

Code:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ AllFilesystemObjects \ shellex \ ContextMenuHandlers \
3. Right-click the ContextMenuHandlers entry, and from the menu select New > Key
4. Name the new key Copy To
5. Repeat step 3, but this time for the name (step 4) choose Move To
6. Change the (Default) string value found in the Copy To key to

Code:
{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}
7. Change the (Default) string value found in the Move To key to

Code:
{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}
8. Close the registry editor.

I found this at another website.

I have multiple hardrives both internal and external, and have never thought of doing this before. Here's how to show the free space left on them with the Pie Chart feature.

You can obtain detailed information about the amount of available and used space on your Windows XP disk by right-clicking any drive icon in My Computer and selecting Properties.

You also get a nice pie chart display that depicts this information graphically, which makes it very easy to quickly analyze your hard disk usage.

If you have multiple drives, performing this operation on each one can be time consuming. Fortunately, Windows XP can provide the same type of pie chart display for all your drives in one tabbed dialog box. Here’s how:
  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Hold down [Ctrl] and select each one of the drive icons.
  3. Right-click the last one and select Properties.
The resulting dialog box will have a tab containing a pie chart for each drive. You can use this technique with removable as well as floppy disk drives.

In Vista, the same actions will open the properties window with a different tab for each drive. Nice.

Simplest tricks are the ones overlooked. Take searching the internet. If you have an issue with your system and you don't know how to fix it, take it too your favorite search engine.

Precede your search using keywords. Here are my favorites.

Startup
Howto
Tutorial
Download
Buy
Online
Error
.<extention> <Subject of file looking for>
Define

For example Say I can't find a word for my crossword...
"Online Crossword Help" would be my search.

Perhaps I need to fix my sidewalk.
"Howto Fix sidewalk"

Perhaps I want to learn about Windows.
"Tutorial Windows XP"

Like Einstein, I don't like to fill my head with subject mater that I can find in any $2 reference book.

In an Explorer Window (eg after clicking My Documents)

you can type:

Desktop
Shared Documents
My Network Places
My Computer
Control Panel
system32

to go to those places. This is a lot faster than finding Desktop manually which would you to go to C:\Documents And Settings\User\Desktop
