Default [Fixed] - Standard Windows Sounds Broken

Ugh, it's hard to explain, but I'll try anyway.

This computer's four years old, and it has I think a Pentium 4 when it first came out. This thing's falling apart and I can't do anything about it, but now I'm having a very, VERY annoying problem...

I do a system check before I leave for vacation up north for two days. My dad's left on the computer, and when I come back, the Windows sounds do not work, at all. Every other sound works, but the Windows ones. My computer itself beeps when I try to make it play a sound, but that's about it. Everything else works, though. I started up Diablo II and it worked fine, AIM sounds work fine, everything like that works fine...But the Windows sounds.

As I type this out, I'm scanning my computer for virus's and spyware, but it's doubtful that that's effecting this computer...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Firstly, welcome to the forum (please reduce the size of that great sig, thanks)

Have you done the obvious?

Go into control panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Sounds tab > Select Windows Default (from the sound scheme drop down box) > OK

Well, thank you for the comment about the sig, it only took me a couple minutes to do it in photoshop...

And yeah, I've already done that. It's uh...Weird...Says everything's fine and stuff, but it still won't work. I should've specified that I've already done those things, and this problem's still here after weeks...

When you do the following control panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Sounds tab > Select Windows Default

Underneath it should give you the different sounds e.g Asterik, Critcal Stop, do they have sound icons next to them and if so if you click on one of them can you play the sound?

Yeah, in fact, they do play there. Just not normally. I ran a few test's on my computer, and I don't have any virus's that my virus protection can see, as well as no spyware on my computer at all.

Zekk, create a new user - this could be because your current user profile is messed up/corrupted in some way.
