Mate it sounds like u have more issues than just the my documents one, windows does sound like it needs to be reinstalled. If you boot off of the windows xp cd, as in put it in reboot your machine, and get it to boot from cd, u can install windows over the top and you will not lose any of your documents, just don't format the hard drive and u should be fine, it should even pick up most of the software u've already installed.

before that try running cmd and using dos to view ur documents, you may be able to copy them to the a: using that method
