No guarantees but here is another method for fixing a corrupt version of IE6. You may need you install disk handy too.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

> From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.
> Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden Files and Folders option.
> Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.
> In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
> In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive that contains the Windows folder.
> Click the Search button.
> In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
> Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
> Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.

Hi,
Bit of a delay as I have been away. Back now and the tale goes on.
I tried the repair with ie.inf, but it said a newer version of two of the files were already on the computer, and also it couldn't find iedw. I finished the 'install' anyway, but didn't overwrite the newer files, and rebooted, but still no joy.

Most of the links that won't open say javascript: Pop-up rendered, or javascript: Open in new window. I have made sure that pop-ups are allowed for the specific sites.

Hey Guys and Gals,

This thread was left unfinished. At the time it turns out that Anji had some serious infections, and the discussion moved over to that. However, there are some things that we should have addressed at the time.

Anji kept saying that she had upgraded to XP Pro over XP SP2, she should have been instructed to do all of her updates, and proceed to the SP2 update.

Also, she said she needed to use Outlook, and we neglected to ask why it wouldn't work with her previous incarnation of XP. (Would have been a good tip for realizing there was malware afoot.)

If you find yourself having similar difficulties, please make sure that all of your updates are completed. If you are still having problems, please follow the instructions for PreWork in my signature, post a new thread for your issue, and attach the requested logs.

Look forward to seeing you in the forum.
