hi my name is omaga6 and i need help it all started awile back. i have used winxp pro corp edition for some time now every thing was fine had my system up for a year running it fine anywho thats a long time so i decided to format and start off new? so i formated and installed xp and boy what a mess as soon as i contected to the net i got virus after virus
its was so bad it took like 4 hours to fix just getting the windows updates to run was a joke and a half sometime the pc would get a message saying it was going to shut down in 60 secs and it would then id have to start all over again so anyways i got it up and running
and now for the fun stuff my system ran for about a week then one day i restarted
and on boot up it says ntldr is missing press ctrl alt del to resart so i did and it would just say it again and again so i went to do another fdisk and when i was done i went to format and it wouldnt let me so i took my hard drive to my brothers place and he is running windows 98 sec edition? so i put my hard drive as a slave and stuck it in his pc and formated it that way then i went home? and installed xp again? and again as soon as i hooked to the net i was taken over by a ton of viruses and again 4 hours later i had it running fine
so everything was fine for two weeks then while installing a game it froze so hit the reset botton and guess what happend on boot up it said ntldr press ctrl alt del to reset
so this time i didnt do a fdisk or a format i just stuck in the xp and botted up and did a quick format the ine thats in the xp cd install and then finished installing xp now here i am again 4 hours later? fighting viruses and spyware and ****? so my question is what the hell is happening things use to be easy i use to be able to get thing running under two hours if that? do you know what is wrong and should i say **** it and install 98 sec edition will 98 have all the viruse problems that xp does im very sad and i just want to play dod and my other games so if some one can help im all ears? and thanks if you do

I would recommend sticking with XP for the moment, Windows 98 actually has a lot more attacks from viruses and things. (or used to)

The best thing to do would be to Boot off the Windows XP CD, partition and format the drive using NTFS.

Once windows has been installed, load up your antivirus software straight away, if you don't have a copy then download AVG Antivirus. (Make sure you update it as well)

The next thing to do is install the windows service packs, so just connect to the microsoft update site and get those downloaded and installed. (make sure you are running Service Pack 2 by the end of it)

Once all this has been done it would probably be a good idea to install a spyware program e.g. Microsoft Antispyware.

sorry for the grammer.whats your take on freeze and then restart then ntldr press ctrl alt del to restet. it has now hapend 3 times any clue.

Can you not register the files in the registry using the Run Dialog?
