hi all, newbie to the forum.

had a few probs with a pc when trying to set up windows i tried all kinds of o/s and keept getting all kinds of errors comming up, this was the main one and ive never had it b4, have a read see wot you make of it, this was comming up when i was trying to install xp useing a few different discs, its all going now but took me a few days to get it to accept xp, i got a feeling its the hardrive but need your views, also i was told never to set up xp useing a dvd drive ? is this true and why ?

ANYWAY HERES THE ERROR \

a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your pc,
the problem seems to be caused by the following file ntfs.sys

if this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen (i get it all the time) restart your pc, if this screen apears again follow theses steps
check to make sure new hardware and software are properly installed,(all is ok as nothings been touched)
if prob continues disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software, disable bios memory options such as cahing or shadowing ( not got a clue wot that is lol)

ntfs.sys,address F818B265 BASE AT F814DO6O

i have put xp back on and i still get this, at one time it ran ok for a while then the blue page thing with all the above came back

please help if you can.

thanks

tone

Hi haz and welcome to www.pchelpforum.com.

Looks like you have just met BSOD :: Blue Screen of Death ::

it looks like its a hardware problems that might have being recently install. Removed it :!:

Try to remember and if you cant... and there is no change in hardware sections looks like you having an impending failures in one of hardwares in which is about to 'die' due to lifespan.

BTW : its aint about the operating system that youre trying to setup is causing the problems.
Before any OS setup : its the hardware successful detections thats will generate a good OS

Hi Haz - nice to see you made it onto the site ;-)

Ok. Let's deal with the things that are the easiest first:

disable bios memory options such as cahing or shadowing ( not got a clue wot that is lol)
Do you know how to get into your PCs bios? If you do then you need to go thru the menu until you get to Video shadow caching or any reference to shadowing or caching and turn it off. It would be a better idea if you went here: http://www.pchelpforum.com/ftopict-225.html , downloaded the tool > ran it and posted your motherboard make and model number. That way I/we can give you much better advice (more informed).

In fact, let's start there - do as I have asked above and post the details...we will go from there. :-D

BTW - There is a minor glitch on the Forum regarding new users avatars - you might want to go here: http://www.pchelpforum.com/ftopict-138.html and select an avatar from the gallery - OR - you could upload one from your PC if you like
