Default Windows.old needs deletion. I'm scared to do it.

Hi guys,

About a month ago I got a new mobo and reinstalled vista and all that jazz. After I reinstalled it once I tried to get rid of the windows.old folder using disk cleanup, like Microsoft suggested. Afterwards, everytime I booted up I got the BSOD: nothing I tried fixed it. So I jsut reinstalled again and just left it.

Now I want to free up some space on my main hdd and the windows.old folder is taking up a whopping 13.8GB. Are there any safer ways of deleting the folder than using disk cleanup again? I've built up quite a solid computer, no errors in a whole month, and I don't want to reinstall everything again.

Cheers

There should be no reason not to just delete it.

However take the safe path and in the first instance rename it to Windowsold.old.

See how it goes for a few days. If no problem delete it. If a problem appears rename it back.

(I'm thinking that the new installation might be referencing drivers in the .old, which of course it shouldn't)

Well, I took a chance and deleted it. Rebooted... no problems. I don't know what the problem was last time but obviously it didn't show it's ugly face this time.

Thanks for suggesting a solution. My next hurdle is upgrading my graphics card XD.
