When you say "on cores" are you referring to the performance tab in task manager? also, why x64 version of vista, it really doesn't do anything but cause problems at this time.

there is a diffrence between x86 Vista and x64 my pc runs much faster whit x64 and abaut cores yes task manger and AMD Overdrive where i can controle it all... i supose it can be lowering them because its not using it and when it will it will rise its frequency so it woud work on maximum.

OK, I did a little research and found that you need to replace some HAL system files, HAL stands for hardware abstraction layer, its basically the last piece of software between windows and your computers hardware. here is a link to the site with instructions. I know its for dual core, but it seems to be the same problem, as in only one core is being detected. Hope this helps, if it doesn't give me a shout

Hello Visible and welcome to PCHelpForum.

If you are running a dual core CPU or quad the princibles are the same.

What you see is normal with a dual core.

One core rises up and down on CPU usage a lot.The other will rise usaly only a small amount.

If an average operating system uses an average of 60 processes wich show in task manager they are handled mainly by one core.

Lets say then you open windows media player and start your virus scanner you will see the second core usage rise more than usal and your first core also rise.

Ok open 10 pages of IE and WMP and start a virus scanner. You will see both cores rising up and down and your processes in task manager are at a higher number.

What you see in a dual/quad core processor is normal. Please do not worry they do not rise and fall at the same rate. The first core is mostly dedicated to running your main operating system.Again this also happens with a Quad core.

Each core has an almost seprate function.

This is not exactly right but its princible is:

1st core:operating system.Uses the most processes.

2nd core:games.

3rd core:IE.

4th core:all other programs.

I hope this helps with your question.

JB.

If the speed is jumping from high to low, the problem is likely not a problem at all, it is a feature built into modern processors and motherboards, in this case called AMD Cooln quiet, basically when your processor isnt under load, it will slow the clock speed down, lowering temperatures, and reducing power consumption. If you really want, you should be able to disable this feature in the BIOS. I hope this helps
