Hi, I hope someone can help me!

I have a HP Pavilion Laptop running Vista Home Premium.

I have a problem that I am unable to download things. I click download and the bar fills up with blue and it says saving to desktop, but when I click to the desktop, nothing has downloaded. I have tried using 'run' instead of save and the blue bar fills up and it says saving to temporary folder, but then nothing. I can't open e-mail attachements that need downloading or download any thing from the net at all.

I have tried several system restores to various different dates and got something to save to the desktop once, but now anything I try and download doesn't download.

I have tried running the computer in safe mode with networking but the problem still occurs. I have also tried resetting internet explorer, but again that does nothing.

If anyone can offer a solution I would be really grateful.

Can we see if it's a browser or OS issue. Please download Firefox web browser | Faster, more secure, & customizable - then try to download something. Post back your results....

Hi thanks for your quick response. Followed the link and downloaded firefox to my destop, but the only problem is I can't download anything.... When I went to my desktop it wasn't there????

When you click on the Firefox download Internet Explorer normally gives you the option to Run or Save.

Choose Run

Hi chose 'run' instead of save.

A pop up box appeared and said saving to temporary folder, the blue download bar filled up then another box popped up over the top and said are you sure you want to run this programe, clicked run again and both boxes disappeared.

Then nothing.

Ok, as you have tried System Restore already, it's time to bring out the big(ger) guns...

Hi you mentioned it may ask me to put in the vista disk, but our comp did not come with any disks - if I remeber rightly it said that you had to create your own???? Not knowing how to do this and wanting to get online asap this was of course something I glossed over....

Can I just check that I can perform the task you have directed me to without the disk without causing major problems?
