i can't get my advent desktop running vista home premium to boot.
when it starts a get the black screen with all the advaced boot options-none of which work, it just stays in this restart boot loop

If i try my repair cd, it gots past the black screen with the little green load bar and then the BSOD showing eror 0x00000050 which indicates a
memory or hard drive failure.
but while looking for help from a windows site- link-http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939720/en-us

it tells about a hotfix, how can this be used if you can't boot?

i appreciate any replies

the bsod shows the following..........

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

after a lot of suggested solutions or advise it says the following.......


STOP:0X00000050,(0X0X8B6FF018,0X00000000,0X87A2C36 7,0X00000000)

CFF.SYS-Address 87A2C367 base at 87A2B000, Datestamp 4549acbc,


after a lot of googling i found the following suggested fix, but if it's a solution, how can you install if you can't get into the operating system

Error message when you start a Windows Vista-based computer: "STOP: 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"

by the way, i'm using my laptop to type this.

I think that you may have a Beep.sys virus infection. I just had a user with the very same problem. Couldn't follow the Microsoft Instructions, because he couldn't get into the PC. (silly M$ )

Do you have a full copy of the OS? If not are you familiar with the layout of your restore CD?

as mentioned in my first post, the cd only loads so far and then the BSOD appears. The only strange thing i can remember happening the day before was, avg found a virus after i had installed a programme called threatfire(how ironic to get an infection from a progamme designed to protect- by the way i downloaded the programme from download.com), which i moved to the vault before uninstalling threatfire. the next day i couldn't get the pc to boot
