Default Vista 64bit Blue Screens Because Of Antivirus?

I have Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Yay? It's been two months and I still have mixed feelings.
It blue screens. A lot. Way more than XP ever did. This is on the level of Windows Millennium Edition. My network card and my sound card gave me constant trouble until recently when I was able to acquire updated drivers. I have my fingers crossed on those.
The current problem is...antivirus? Vista randomly crashes to a blue screen, reboots, then points its finger at 'anti virus software'. I say randomly because it happens at night when the computer is alone, and while I'm working during the day. (It seems to always crash when I'm running un-named program, but I don't see how that can be the problem)
I switched Antivirus from Nod32 to Clamwin in hopes that the problem would go away, and it didn't. So what's the deal? I have my old XP disc sitting in front of me on my desk. I'm ready for a stable, compatible operating system again.
(On a side note, just how much processing power am I wasting by running a 32-bit OS on a core2quad?)

Thanks in advance, you guys are the greatest.

Hey GM, thanks for the very kind words.

Are the BSODs hanging around long enough for you to post the error codes? That might help us at least focus the search a little.

No offense, but I wouldn't touch Vista with a ten foot pole, another one of M$ ME-like boffs.

Sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble tho.

Have you checked to see if you've picked up a virus or something through utorrent, as utorrent is a site used primarily for downloading illegal software it is more than common to have using that site infect your PC. You will have to remove any illegal software before we will be able to assist you with your disinfection. Here is our policy on pirated software. Please make sure that you are following all of the rules at PCHF so that we can offer you our full support and assistance.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Oh darn, I thought for sure I'd removed the bit about un-named program (not supposed to post about that on here) Editing posts on here

The blue screen is there and gone I'm afraid. Can't get anything from it. I could try to see if the explanation I receive once the computer reboots has anything useful in it.

I am not offended. :-) Some friends of mine who work in tech support absolutely love it, and I upgraded on their word.

I use un-named program to download linux distros (I'm addicted to playing with them) but I understand and agree with your rules in that matter. I'll remove mention of it from my post. I've scanned with Clamwin and come up clean.

EDIT: Aha. I can edit my posts but not my question. Silly. :-D Anyway, my apologies on that. I know you guys are pretty strict about those things.

Alright, I think I might have found the culprit: after looking through the BSOD logs like in the guide there (thanks for the link Jelly Bean) I didn't find any 1001's for 'Save Dump' but I found PILES of 1001's for WINDOWS DEFENDER.

Could Windows Defender be the 'anti virus software' that's crashing my system? I've disabled it to see if the crashes go away.

What antivirus programs do you have installed?

Is it pointing the finger at a specific named one?

Let me check the 1001,s and see if I can come up with anything.

Event viewer in Vista registers so many minor issues I hardly belive what it comes up with.

I alos have Vista 64 bit and it is annoying any number of software or driver issues could cause the BSODs.The lack of compatability of software and drivers for 64 bit is realy annoying.
