Default Blue Screen of death

I have a Dell desktop running XP with service pack 2. I turned it on this morning and got the blue screen that says something like "stopped to protect windows". I tried to boot in safe mode, same result. I tried to start the computer with the XP system disk I used to originally load the system (1.5 years ago) to try system recovery but I get the same screen. Any advice on how to recover or do I have a total loss at this point?

The BSOD info is important and direct clues to what is causing the critical error but also helpful if you list everything you have recently done to the pc, including bios settings, drivers, newly installed software, etc, that you did right before the shutdown before this boot up. Graphics drivers if the wrong one can cause this easily and also memory problems, especially if you have OC'ed the system.

Hey,
Can you load your computer up, in safe mode?
If you can delete any new software you have installed with in the last week of your problem, you might find you got software conflict, i not need to format your computer
