Default HP Laptop Built In Microphone Doesn't Work
I have an HP-Pavilion DV6670ej, which comes with a built in mic, on top of the screen, on the sides of the built in webcam. Now... The microphone doesn't seem to be working. It's a new laptop, I doubt the problem is in the laptop itself (also since I've had other hardware not working as well).
I don't think I installed any drivers, since I didn't believe I had to; the microphone is registered in Windows and is said to be working properly, but then again, it doesn't work at all. Doesn't catch any sound. The sound level/volume/whatever you call it bar that shows how much sound the mic is catching is constantly on 2 bars green.

Any help? A driver I should be looking specifically for? A... A fix I should try?

Hello,could you check in device manager and choose update driver for this hardware.

Even if a new computer is purchased some times they need a driver update or sound or a few items enabled.

In control panel and sound options check nothing is muted and all sliders are fully up.

Tech Team will help you with your issue,please post back once you have tried the above.

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderfu team of techs here, as well as a large community of helpful and knowlegable users. I am sure that we will be able to assist you in tracking down the problem with your mike.

Can you please tell us what is listed when you go to Start, Control Panel, Sound Speech and Audio Devices, and click on the Voice tab. What is listed under Voice recording as the Default Device.

Also, what program are you using to test the microphone?

It's said to be updated. And nothing is muted.

Two items, both are:
Microphone
High Definition Audio Device

One is Currently unavailable and one is said to be Working. Switching the default item swaps the working and unavailable states.

The Working one is said to be the built in ATAPI jack.

Is there any indication that the microphone is being recognized?

What programs have you attempted to use the microphone in?

Just out of curiosity, what other hardware have you had trouble with on this laptop?

~ I tried with both items as default
~ The microphone is like I mentioned, said to be recognized, and Vista sees it as working. There is constant "signal" from it (not actual signal, the level bars just fill themselves up) but no actual sound is recorded.
~ I tried through Windows' Recorder and Windows Live Messenger
~ Just this and my USB mouse which did not work until I plugged it through a USB split adapter.

So sorry, didn't mean to let you hang like that, have been having connection problems for a few days.

Do you have a jack for a microphone in your laptop ? Do you have any other difficulties with sound issues?

Do you have either a headset or other microphone that you could test with?
