Hi,
I'm running Windows Vista Home 32bit. I have been having a significant amount of problems since my last Windows update (Objectdock won't load, some files won't open, svchost.exe runs at about 50% constantly, etc...). I am trying to uninstall the last updates but when I do, the progress bar doesn't do anything and will sit there for a ridiculous amount of time.
Anyway, I have had it with trying to do that so I am going to do a system restore but when I click on the system restore program, it won't open. i try to open it again and it says that the wizard is already running and the program will now close. Any ideas other than completely wiping the HDD?

Hey Longhorn,

I would try running the System Restore from Safe Mode, so if there is something interfering with the utility, chances are that it won't have been loaded.

Give that a try and get back to us to let us know.

Thanks for your response. I have tried to load Vista in safe mode but nothing happens but the safe mode screen. There's no task bar that comes up and no anything to click on. I will keep trying tonight and get back with you tomorrow. But as of now, I am pretty much in a bind.

Ok, so I got the system restore to finally work. I rolled it back one day before my last update, still having issues. I rolled it back as far as I could and I am still having the same problems.
Like I've said, I have done scan after scan after scan. Ad-Aware to McAfee to HiackThis. I am at a loss.

@ JB, I'm pretty sure that longhorn's system restore isn't working properly.

@Longhorn,
Can you please follow the instructions for downloading and running HJT from the PreWork link in my signature. Let's make sure that there aren't any rlm's (rotton little monsters) causing this problem. Post the resulting log back here, and we will have the Security Team take a look.

Thanks for your help. I had been working on it for hours today and I finally just got fed up and reloaded my computer back to the factory settings and now it is working properly. I wanted to avoid as much as I could, but I needed the issue to be resolved quickly. Now my computer is working fine and I suppose you can lock this thread. But thank you very much for your time and help. Keep up the good work with the site!
