The network and volume icons used to appear in the notification area in my main user account but no longer do so.
I have Vista Home Premium.
When I went into the properties/notification area from the task bar to attempt to rectify the issue I find I am not able to select the network and volume items - I cannot put a tick against them.
The puzzling thing is that I have one secondary user account and the network and volume icons work alright in there.

Can anyone help please?

Hi,

I haven't seen this before..but luckily someone else has

1. click start > run and type regedit to open the registry editor.
2. Search for "iconstreams"
3. Delete all keys with the name "iconstreams" and "pasticonstreams" until "iconstreams" cannot be found in the registry
4. Restart Vista
5. if the icon is not there at startup, right click the taskbar, click properties then notification area and enable the icon like normal.

I tackled this when fresh this morning as I have never even been into the Registry before and was somewhat apprehensive!

Problem solved!

Your advice worked like a dream and the icons are sitting happily in the notiification area.
