Dell531 inspiron . Yesterday I noticed the color was a little off...could see green squiggly lines on pictures. Then this morning when I turned on the monitor there was a screen running that said "Start up repair is checking your system for problems.

then a scr een came up and asked if I wanted to restore...i clicked yes, but it didn't restore. then a screen stating recent driver install or upgrade maybe preventing they system from starting. I booted into safe mode and got my desktop but it was huge. I tried to restore and it wouldn't restore. then I booted to f12 and f2 and f8 trying to get past the black screen. Now I can't get to safemode at all.

I get the big dell screen...then the microsoft bar at the bottom then it goes black and the only thing on it is my curser arrow!!

Help please

Sorry for the delay in getting to your post. Do you have the recovery discs for your computer?

From what you describe in your post you are going to have to reset the computer back to factory. You said you tried F12, F2 and F8. Can you please let us know in your next post what it says to press F12, F2 and F8 to access.

If you have files on the hard drive you want to keep - I would recommend removing it and putting it into another pc as a slave to backup your files. Please let us know in your next post if you need help with how to do this.

fortunatley I was still under warranty with dell so thier support got me back to a restore point and my computer came back up. problem is I still have corrupt files that cause windows media player not to work, I get sercuity certificate warnings on every website, and I can't download updates or Dell program that lets them take over my computer and fix things. So, I have ordered a 500gb external drive and will back up eveyrthing and restore it to factory settings and then download my back up.

Thats probably your best option if your windows is corrupt. We'll leave this thread open in case you need any help with anything. Please let us know once you have it all up and running again.
