Sometime recently, I'm not sure when, the Sound, Power, and Network icons disappeared from the notification area of my task bar. They had been there since I purchased this HP laptop running Vista Home Premium. On the 12th of this month I downloaded several updates from Windows, but I can't imagine that Bill Gates thinks I would be better off without that information/convenience.

Everything seems to be working fine (at least as fine as it ever does) and all my other (optional) icons have remained in the notification area. I've looked through recent threads and haven't seen any related to my problem. Any one have any ideas? Thanks.

have you tried opening up the respective controls and checking the tabs about showing them in the task bar?

Thanks, ScORTED. Actually that was one of the first things I tried. The tabs were unchecked, but the labels were dimmed and would not take a check. Yesterday I looked again and the tabs were still unchecked--but this time the labels were less dim and accepted the checks. All back to normal.
