Smile Error 1305 Acrobat Pro

Hello to all,

I discovered this forum today, as I was searching for a solution to a problem. I was happy to join, and I hope to use it both ways; seeking help and offering assistance to those I am able to help.

I run Windows Vista Home Premium on my Dell I-1720. I am trying to install Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.0, and keep getting error message 1305 stating:

Error 1305. Error reading from file C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\adistres.dll. Verify that the files exists and that you can access it.

I tried cleaning the CD, and got the same message. I then tried to copy the cd to my desktop, and it cannot read the Data 1 folder where the adistres.dll file is located.

I read this is a common problem with windows installer, and would like to know if any of you folks know how to resolve this. I have some computer skills, and can follow instructions.

Also, why is the installer trying to read the data 1 file from C, when it is located on the CD in drive E?

I thank you in advance for any solutions.

Sincerely,

Mark Kanges

Hello and welcome Mark

Do you have a previous version of Adobe Acrobat installed ?
If so it would be advisable to uninstall it, first saving any docs that might have been saved in the Adobe or Acrobat folder

Additionally if you don't have a previous version installed please have a look to see if the version you are attempting to install has created any new folders as part of a failed installation. OR look in add/remove programs to see if Acrobat 8 has registered itself and can be removed.

Use ccleaner to clear out any leftovers from Acrobat 8 or a previous version.

Now try a clean install.

Hi,

Thank you. I don't have any version of acrobat installed. All I have is the install cd...and it isnt reading the data1 cab file. I tried copying the cd to desktop, and it still cannot read the data1 cab file. I tried copying the file by itself to the desktyop folder and still no luck. i think it is some snafu in the windows installer itself.

Hi there,

Before you look at re-installing a component of Vista, let's try to restore your current system files to their optimal and original state. To save typing the full instructions here, I have included a helpful link for you:

OK...

I ran the file integrity utility, and it indicated a problem with

C:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log

When I tried to explore it, it denied access, despite running the utility as an administrator.

This is a new computer; does that have anything to do with Windows Installer and what I'm trying to solve? How could that file get jacked up so soon?

Thanks,

Mark
