Angry PC Keeps Freezing HELP

Hi, I bought a Packard Bell Pc 7 months ago and it has been nothing but a nuisance. It constantly keeps freezing and I am unable to do anything and have to turn it off at the main plug as the power button (which is usually lit blue) has a red light on it. The mouse and keyboard do not work and I cannot bring up Task Manager.
last night when I restarted it, an error message came up staing some problem with the driver ARGH! I dont understand it
Can anyone tell me whether this is to do with Vista, or the actual PC malfunctioning.
I only use it for internet, and loading photos, neither of which I do an awful lot. I dont download games or suchlike from the internet.
Many thanks in advance for your help

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

Firstly please do not be so impatient and double post. This forum can become very busy at times and you need to wait your turn.

Now could you go to your "User CP" and fill in your computer specifications and check box to show others.

Do you have a virus scanner installed?

Have you installed the latest service pack and updates?

Have you updated drivers via device manager?

Have you done a disk cleanup?

Download and run this:CCleaner - Home

Hi

I have Norton 360 All-In-One, although this had started to not work also: it shows as Browsing Not Safe: Auto-Protect Off, and everytime I try to turn it back on, nothing changes.

How do I install the service pack and updates? (sorry)

I have no idea how to update a driver either

I have done a disc cleanup, nothing unusual happened

I have run the CCleaner.

I previously had problems playing CD's as nothing happened when I inserted a disc, it was not recognising my CD drive.

I had an error message after last nights freezing session:
Checking file system on C:
The type of system is NTFS
Volume label is HDD
one of your discs needs to be checked for consistency, you may cancel the disc check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue. Windows will now check the disc
CHKDSK is now verifying the files (stages 1 of 3)

CHKDSK can take some time please do not exit it.

Updates,click start/All programs/windows updates.

You must fully update this system before installing SP1.To check if SP1 is already installed do this:Click start and right click on computer and scroll to properties and check there to see if it is listed.

Update drivers can either be downloaded from manufacturers website.

Or do this:Click start/all programs/right click on computer and scroll and open properties on left is device manager.Open device manager and use + to open drop down box,s.Right click on the item listed and choose update driver.

If you are unsure of your computer hardware such as GPU=graphics card they are listed in device manager or run this:Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit

You may wish to do the "Prework" link in red below on my signiture.

How do I enable Task Manager if it has been disabled?

If Task Manager has been disabled, you can re-enable it if you have administrator privileges on the computer.
To enable Task Manager on a computer running Windows Vista Home Basic or Windows Vista Home Premium

This procedure requires you to edit the registry. An incorrect change to your computer's registry could render your computer inoperable. We strongly recommend that you back up the registry before making any changes. For more information, see Back up the registry.
1. Open the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button , typing regedit into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER.* If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. Navigate to the following location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies
3. Double-click System, double-click DisableTaskMgr, change Value data to 0, and then click OK.
To enable task Manager on a computer running other editions of Windows Vista

1. Click the Start button , type gpedit.msc in the search box, and then press ENTER.
2. Under User Configuration, double-click Administrative Templates.
3. Double-click System, and then click Crtl+Alt+Del Options.
4. Double-click Remove Task Manager, click Disabled, and then click OK.
NoteIf the Remove Task Manager properties appear dimmed, your network administrator has prevented you from changing these settings. Contact your network administrator to have Task Manager enabled.
