Default Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility problem

I need a little help, please. OK, a lot of help...

My Dell Inspiron 1721 laptop's Control Panel contains the Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility. When I attempt to open the Utility, it takes a minute for the window to open, then when I move the mouse over the window the mouse turns into the rotating circle.

The Utility window never becomes accessible. To close the window I have to use the Task Manager. Then, the Task Manager says the process is not responding.

Also, the window shows the Show Utility Icon as selected, but the Icon is not in the Notification tray.

I checked out this guide ... Documentation, but it doesn't help.
I tried to post an image of the Utility window, but the window will not copy.
As for Services, the WLAN AutoConfig is Started.

Thanks for the help...

Thanks for the help...
Friend Gandalf, Windows has it's own WLAN utility and it may be causing a conflict with the Dell utility. For more indepth info look here.. Wireless at LSU FAQ: Problems with Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility - GROK Knowledge Base

Thanks LC.

I couldn't do option 1, because I couldn't use the Utility. But when I did option 2, it make the Dell Utility usable. Go figure...

I am glad I could be of help. My question is why did Dell include the utility when they knew of a possible conflict. Or at the very least make the customer aware there may be that possibility.

LC, what makes you think Dell knew there was a conflict?

The Utility was probably make for XP and just included with the "Vista" computers.

I must admit I like the way they upgrade their BIOS. No fuss. No bother. Just download it and it installs itself.

As a guess Friend Gandalf, The problem was evident in XP as well. No matter. It is impossible to keep up with every fault. I still think Dell has good support. I own two.
