Question Am I Endagering my Laptop by running Vista?

I ran the Vista upgrade check thing and it said my laptop could run Vista, (with a graphics upgrade).
I have a Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook E4010 - Intel Centrino - 1.6ghz - 1gb ram.
I've recently installed Vista Ultimate and it seems to run pretty well considering. A guy in work did tell me, however, that you shouldn't run Vista with anything less than a Duel Core processor. Is he right? And if so, is there a chance of me burning the cpu out by running Vista? I'm only really using it for internet etc. Nothing strenuous such as gaming.

BTW the guy in work is an XP philistine!

Hello Campbell.0

Here are MicroSoft's mininum requirements. I have included reccomended requirements. Read the last part. This will explain about the duel core processor reference.

Windows Vista Ultimate
Minimum supported system requirements

Certain product features are not available with minimum supported requirements.
  • 800 MHz processor and 512 MB of system memory
  • 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
  • Support for Super VGA graphics
  • CD-ROM
Windows Vista Ultimate
Recommended system requirements

  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 GB of system memory
  • 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:
    • WDDM Driver
    • 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)
    • Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware
    • 32 bits per pixel
  • DVD-ROM
  • Audio Output
  • Internet access (fees may apply)
Additional requirements to use certain features
  • TV tuner card required for TV functionality (compatible remote control optional)
  • Windows Tablet and Touch Technology requires a Tablet PC or a touch screen
  • Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption requires a USB Flash Drive and a system with a TPM 1.2 chip
Actual requirements and product functionality may vary based on your system configuration. Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor can help you determine which features and edition of Windows Vista will run on your computer.
While all editions of Windows Vista can support multiple core CPUs, only Windows Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise can support dual processors.

Actually, with a software patch you can run Vista on 256mb ram and (I think) 500mhz...what fun that would be
Like running XP on 233mhz/64mb, you can but why would you...
Honestly though...I would just out of curiosity...

hi,

You should be OK with with Vista Basic for "Dual Core" systems too. It's only when you have more than 1 processor (i.e. more than 1 chip) that you'd need Business or Ulitmate.
