I just got a pc with Vista installed, and Vista is new to me, I would like to install Office 2002 on my pc but heard it could cause problems? I don't want to install outlook, just Word and Excel, any known issues or ways to do this without causing headaches?

Also, simple question... I bought this pc used from a friend, so the computer name is what he named it, how do I change that on Vista?

Word 2002 may or may not work with Vista. I just did some research reading about it and sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't work.. give it a shot. If it won't install or run, try right clicking on the installer or program and select Properties. Then go to the Compatibility tab and check the box that says run this program in compatibility for and make sure Windows XP SP2 is selected. Then click Ok.

I would recommend a reformat and reinstall if you bought it from someone else and they used it. It will get all of their old files that you don't need off there and let you start fresh. If you want to do this, did you get a recovery CD with it, and what kind of computer is it?

If you don't want to go through the hassle of reformatting, then to rename it go to the Orb (Start) > right click on Computer and select properties. From there, click Advanced System Settings on the left hand panel. Go to the Computer Name tab and click the button that says Change... from there, you can change the name and then click Ok to save the name.

Thanks for the reply Adam. I will go ahead and give Office a try.

I didn't get a recovery or OS cd with the PC, the PC I believe is an MSI.
All the case says is MSI k7 Motherboard, System information:
Micro-Star MS-7125

Also seeing it is Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 1 Build.... is there a SP2 for Vista yet?



The person I bought it from, I believe reinstalled Vista fresh, though must have entered his name for the computer while installing Vista.

I followed your instructions on changing the computer name, thanks for the help, though I just realized it was the user account settings where it had to be changed for what I was trying to do as well. so problem solved, thanks. I have more questions, but I will save those for a more suiting thread/forum.

There is no SP2 for Vista yet. SP1 just came out a few weeks ago actually.
